Does parental heart rate affect embryonic heart rate during incubation? An experiment in Common Terns Sterna hirundo

چکیده
Abstract Embryonic heart rate is a strong determinant of metabolic and the embryonic development in oviparous species. In humans, positively correlated with mother. However, human embryos do not develop autonomously from maternal circulatory system, making it impossible to separate control an independent adjustment its that birds, does occur mother, while embryo can auditively perceive incubating parent. this study, we used Common Terns ( Sterna hirundo ) experimentally test whether affected by parental during incubation. We artificially incubated freshly laid eggs under standardized conditions continuously exposed them sound either slow or fast throughout first 18 days development. At day (a few before hatching) there was no significant difference between both treatments. There also effect treatment on total duration hatching success. suggest may be parent because natural rates are very sensitive external fluctuate drastically, need relatively stable for optimal

Calibrating the telomere clock in common terns, Sterna hirundo.
Field biologists often work with animals for which there are no prior history. A marker of an animal's age would offer insight into how age and experience affect reproductive success and other life history parameters. We previously reported that length of telomere restriction fragments shorten predictably with age in the captive zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata). This paper reports that telomer...
متن کاملBrood Size and Food Provisioning in Common Terns Sterna Hirundo and Arctic Terns S. Paradisaea: Consequences for Chick Growth
Food provisioning rates and chick growth rates of Common Terns Sterna hirundo and Arctic Terns S. paradisaea were studied in Northeast England. Adult terns ofboth species fed large broods more frequently than those containing fewer chicks. Energy supply per nestling declined slightly as brood size increased and as a result, chicks in large broods developed body mass at a slightly lower rate tha...
متن کاملAre Morphometrics Sufficient for Estimating Age of Pre-Fledging Birds in the Field? A Test Using Common Terns (Sterna hirundo)
Age is a key component of fitness, affecting survival and reproductive capacities. Where it is not possible to study known individuals from birth, morphometrics (predominantly patterns of plumage development for birds) are most often used to estimate age. Although criteria for age estimations exist for many species, the degree to which these criteria improve the precision of estimates remains t...
متن کاملComparative embryotoxicity of a pentabrominated diphenyl ether mixture to common terns (Sterna hirundo) and American kestrels (Falco sparverius).
Concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in Forster's tern (Sterna forsteri) eggs from San Francisco Bay have been reported to range up to 63μgg(-1) lipid weight. This value exceeds the lowest-observed-adverse-effect level (1.8μgg(-1) egg wet weight; ∼32μg(-1) lipid weight) reported in an embryotoxicity study with American kestrels (Falco sparverius). As a surrogate for Forster'...
متن کاملتغییرپذیری ضربان قلب Heart rate variability))
Abstract Many studies have been conducted on heart rate variability. Variability in the heart signal of two sequential beats is called heart rate variability (HRV). Short- and long- term variability reflects autonomic nervous system function, so that increased or decreased heart rate variability (HRV) is an indicator of human health. So, the analysis of these changes can predict sudden death...
